Feedback styles
A quick discussion-based activity to normalize feedback on teams
Objective: Learn the feedback strengths of each DiSC style and discuss how to encourage healthy feedback on a team.
Prerequisites: This activity works best as a follow-up for established teams who have been through an initial DiSC training.
Materials:
DiSC Elements of Constructive Feedback handout (PDF)
Time required: ~15-30 minutes
Instructions:
Distribute the handout or display it on screen. Review the feedback strengths of each DiSC style and remind the team that good feedback uses all of these approaches.
Then, lead a discussion. You can consider questions such as:
- Which of these do you think you do naturally really well? Why do you think it's so natural for you?
- Which of these are more of a struggle for you? What makes it difficult for you? Is that related to your DiSC style at all?
- Think of a specific time when you got feedback and one of these was missing. What happened and how did the feedback land with you?
- Which ones do you think our team does really well? Which do you think it does less well?
- Which do you think you could personally get better at?
This discussion helps teams agree about what healthy discourse looks like on a high-functioning team.
